Working on a few different things today. I had some work to do, but being friday it is mostly a day for putting through my PRs, and code review when I can. I also am ideating on how I want to extend and work on Exosourcing. I have watched a few different videos on the topic of constructors, the rule of 5, and memory layouts of types in C/C++.

  • Rule of 0/3/5 is not that you SHOULD define them, but that if you define one, you should define all of them
  • Member of a reference type (&) can be used to define the nature of the type's ownership, making it only copy-constructible but not copy-assignable.
  • Treat guidelines as guidelines and rules as rules.

  • Consider that calculating values may be an order of magnitude faster than accessing even the L1 cache in a memoized operation
  • Reduce size of structures by "tagging", and also remembering to calculate when possible
